Myofascial Release
Connective tissues of the body, “fascia”, forms a web surrounding and supporting the body’s musculoskeletal structure. Since fascia is continuous throughout the body, any distortions which develop in one area can potentially create distortions elsewhere negatively affecting structures which are supported or attached to the fascia, such as nerves, muscles, tendons. When an injury occurs or under emotional stress, this fascia becomes tense and tightens up. This causes pain and physical restrictions. By concentrating on the soft tissues, the aim is to release any discomfort and pain felt in the fascia. |
Trigger Point Therapy
Focuses on stimulating and releasing “Trigger Points” (highly irritated points in the belly of muscles) that refer pain to other points in the body. These points build up due to physical, mental, and/or emotional stresses. Focused pressure is applied through a variety of techniques to release them. Stretching and flexibility Muscle Energy Techniques may also be used. |
Deep Tissue
Targeting deep into muscle fibres aiming to relieve tension, chronic stress areas, due to repetitive motions, misalignment, and past lingering injuries. Elbows and forearms are generally used to increase pressure, usually across fibres of muscles. Bearing in mind the depth can be uncomfortable, it's essential to communicate with your therapist as to your comfort levels, and not exceed them. Soreness is common initially after treatment and should settle down within a day or two. Toxins created by muscle tension are flushed out by drinking plenty of water after a treatment. So it is not uncommon to feel a bit "sluggish" while your body and the immune system adjusts. |
Relaxation Gentle long flowing strokes aimed at improving circulation, releasing stress and tension, increasing flexibility, easing those tired and sore muscles, beneficial for anxiety as it releases endorphins bringing about a state of relaxation. Strokes are generally slow, long and repetitive, aimed at the superficial layers of muscles in the body. Aromatherapy oils can be used to aid in a general feeling of well-being. |
Lymphatic Drainage
The Lymphatic system plays a vital role in our immune system and our cardiovascular system. In today’s lifestyle, ongoing stress, unbalanced food intakes, and our environmental factors, adversely affect the lymphatic system. As blood travels around our bodies’ wastes, nutrients and gas exchanges occur. Excess blood from our vascular system leaks out to our tissues. In a one way direction, lymph vessels catch these fluids and send these through the lymph nodes. Then any infectious bacteria, by-products, and fats can be filtered out. The blood then continues back into the venous system to be recirculated. |
When these fluids accumulate in the tissue spaces swelling occurs (oedema) Lymphatic drainage, is a very light technique which encourages the lymph fluid along towards these nodes, at the same time relaxing the nervous system. Sometimes these nodes can be overwhelmed, and become swollen and inflamed, and need some manual help. E.g., if you have had a head cold, have a recurring sore throat, suffer from ongoing fatigue and can’t shake it off, a session of lymphatic drainage can give your immune system a boost.
